Fundraisers:
Unfortunately, we have a few important apologies for this date: Linda Ireland will be in New Zealand on her “retirement” holiday (booked well in advance for cheap tickets). Annie Kidman, Liz Dashwood and Grant Allan will all be down in Canberra at the Australian Masters Games.
There are no movies available in the near future so we are planning for February – March next year. This will get past the school holidays and kick off the new season.
· Chris Martin for refurbishing three discus that had been salvaged from NTA by Steve Darling. Every little bit helps.
Results:
NT Track and Field Championships
CAAC made its presence felt with a solid
set of performances and provided some much-needed competition in the Open and
Masters Age Groups. The team found it a great experience to be able to compete
at a stadium with a synthetic track and other top-grade facilities. We hope the
number of entries will increase next year.
In the Open Mens Division Graeme Hughes had an outstanding
competition with Gold in Discus, 30.59M (a PB by 1.6M), Javelin, 37.97M (a PB
by 2.5M) and Long Jump 5.47M (PB). He also took Bronze in the Triple Jump, 10.68M
(PB) and the Hammer, 19.52M (a PB by 1.4M). Paul Duffy gained Gold in the Shot Put and Triple Jump (a Seasons
Best by over a metre); silver in Discus, Long Jump and Hammer (PB) and Bronze
in Javelin.
In the Masters Division, Cheryl Slater gained gold in 200M 33.8
secs (PB), silver in 100M 16.3 secs (PB) and Bronze in the Long Jump; Steve Darling won Gold in the Hammer
with a throw of 21.85M (PB); and Linda
Ireland took 3 Golds for Long Jump, Hammer and Discus (NT Record).

Congratulations to our members who competed in the Masters Female division. Alison Nicolls came 2nd with a time of 47.50 minutes and Louise Ogden, participating for the first time as a runner, returned a time of 57.37 minutes.
Coaching Course:
Thankyou to Stacey Schmitt and Adrienne Willing who both attended the Level 1 Coaching Principles Course in August. Both apparently felt the course to be worthwhile. Keep posted for future courses.

President’s Moment:
Over the past couple of months there appears to have been a
growing misconception as to what the Central Australian Athletics Club Inc. is
all about. We are not a Jumps Club, a
Running Club, a Throws Club, a Social Club, a Walking Club or a Fitness Club. We are most definitely a combination of all
of the above. Because of the
different disciplines and training schedules we don’t meet up often but this is
perfectly normal for an athletics club. Our main constitutional objective is
to promote Track and Field athletics through the long thread of affiliation
with the Northern Territory Athletics Association, Athletics Australia and the
IAAF. We abide by their rules and regulations to the best of our ability.
The club is also designed to be a vehicle for athletes who wish to aspire to
higher levels of competition. We hope
to encourage junior athletes to continue with the sport by providing the forum
that was missing in Alice Springs until the formation of CAAC.
The club is also committed to establishing and maintaining
cordial relations with other sporting bodies, wherever their goals and wherever
they may be located.
However, the club’s general commitment is to the promotion of fitness, friendship and fun through the participation in track and field endeavours at any level and in a variety of locations.
