NORTHERN TERRITORY  ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

COMPETITION RULES

 

•       All athletes must be registered with the NTA and entered by an affiliated Centre.

 

•       Only athletes officially nominated in the championships can compete.

 

•       Athletes must compete in their own age group.

 

•       Athletes must wear centre/club uniform to compete.

 

•       Athletes must wear their registration number attached to the front of their centre uniform and age patches for 13 and under age groups, sewn to the top left front of their uniform.

 

•       Athlete’s will  be charged a fee of $8.00 per event, with a maximum of $40.00 per athlete.

 

•       Athletes in the 9  – 11 year age groups can enter a maximum of 7 events.

 

•        Athletes in the Under 14 and older age groups are unrestricted in the number of events they may enter.

 

PROTESTS

 

•       A Centre's or Club's Team Manager will be responsible for submission of protests.  No other person, other than the Team Manager, shall be entitled to lodge protests or query decisions. The protest shall be lodged in writing and accompanied by a $20.00 protest fee, delivered to the event appropriate referee, within 15 minutes of the completion of the event.  (ie Throws Referee, Jumps Referee, Track Referee)  The fee will be forfeited if the protest is dismissed.

 

FOOTWEAR

 

•       9 year age group CANNOT WEAR spikes. Spikes may be used by the 10 - 11 year age groups in the following events, laned track events, high jump and javelin (9mm) and in long and triple jump (7mm). 

 

·          Under 14 years and above may wear spikes in all events except walks.

 

•       Spikes must be carried to each event not worn and are to be removed immediately following the completion of the event.  Spikes must be kept in a bag when not being worn.

 

•       Appropriate footwear (which can be decided by the chief marshal in accordance with NTA policy) must be worn at all events.

 

·           Spikes are not permitted in walk events

 

 


ARENA RULES

 

•       In heat events, athletes must compete in their allocated lane as per the program.

 

•       No coaches are permitted in the Call Room (marshalling area) or the In Field.

 

•       Encouragement (cheering) by Officials or Athletes from the centre of the Arena is not permitted.

 

•       No unauthorised entry into announcers, photo-finish or results room.

 

•       Any infringement of these rules may result in disqualification of the athlete.

 

•       All events will be conducted under IAAF and NTA rules.

 

•       All competition Rules of the NTA take precedence over all other rules.  When NTA rules do not cover a situation, then the IAAF Handbook will be consulted.

 

MARSHALLING FOR EVENTS

 

•       The Call Room (Marshalling Area) will be located at the grandstand at the North Eastern end of the track (closest to the 100 metre start).

 

•       All athletes must assemble in the Call Room after being called.

 

•       The Team Manager is the only person able to advise the Marshal scratching's and event clashes.

 

QUALIFICATION FOR FINALS

 

•       When there are two (2) heats for a track event, the first three (3) in those heats qualify for the final of that event, PLUS the next two (2) fastest times.

 

•       When there are three (3) heats for a track event, the first two (2) in those heats qualify for the final of that event, PLUS the next two (2) fastest times.

 

•       If there are insufficient competitors to run two (2) heats, then a straight final will be run, at the scheduled finals time.

 

•       All heats will be run as per program. in the event of athletes withdrawing and reducing the field to eight/sixteen or less, the event will still be run as 2/3 heats as per program.

 

•       In the laned events, the computer allocates lanes to competitors according to the time submitted on the entry form. Fastest time in the middle lanes, slower time in the outer lanes.

 

•       In all non laned events and all field events, straight finals shall be conducted.

 

TIMING OF TRACK EVENTS

 

•       Electronic Timing and Photo Finish equipment may be used for track events.

 

•       Hand held timers will only be used in the event that electronic equipment is not available.

 

•       Photo Finish times will be recorded to the hundredths of a second. Eg. 10.16

 

•       Hand Held times will be rounded up to the nearest tenth of a second. Eg. 10.2

 

 

 

 

JUMPS

 

•       In long and triple jump events for athletes in the 9 year and older age groups, the first six placed athletes after the three trials shall be entitled to another three trials. 

 

•       In triple jump events, competitors must nominate to an official the distance of the take off board from the pit (either 5m, 7m 9m or 11m) on which they intend to commence their trial.  This nominated mark can be changed during the competition, but only after advising the Officials of the intended change.  Any infringements of this rule will constitute a foul jump.

•       Increments will be at 5cm intervals until the number of participants is reduced to three, and, from then on, 2cm.  When only one competitor remains the heights to which the bar is raised shall be decided by the competitor in consultation with the relevant Chief Judge.

 

•       In long jump events, athletes in ages:

 

         9 years to 11 years shall jump from a metre square set no more than one (1)         metre back from the pit and also for the 10 years and 11 years Triple Jump.

 

         Under 14 and up shall jump from the 200mm board for both the long and triple jumps.

 

MULTI EVENTS     

 

•       The Multi-Event is made up of:

 

         100m, 90m Hurdles, 800m, Long Jump and Discus.

 

•       Any athlete failing to start or make a trial for each event in any of the events in the Multi-Event shall not be allowed to take part in the following events and shall be considered to have abandoned the competition.  The competitor shall not, therefore, figure in the final classification.

 

•       Any competitor deciding to withdraw from the Multi-Event competition shall immediately inform the Marshal prior to the commencement of the first event and directly if during the competition of his/her decisions.

 

 

ENQUIRIES

 

•       All enquiries must be directed to the Arena Manager through the team managers. 

 

•       NO UNAUTHORISED ENTRY INTO THE RESULTS ROOM.

 

MEDAL PRESENTATION

 

•       Medal presentation will take place as soon as possible after the final of the event.

 

TEAM MANAGER'S MEETING

Will be held at 4.30pm on Friday 3 September in the conference room at Arafura Stadium.

 

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

 

Northern Territory Athletics have set the technical standards as listed below, it should be noted that these specifications will be enforced during NT Championships, North Queensland Championships, All Schools and other National Championships. However the starting Height for High Jump should be set at club level so that ALL eligible Athletes receive a valid result.
