The Rural Athletics Centre (RAC) provides an athletics program for junior athletes who primarily reside in rural Darwin. The highest proportion of athletes live in the region that extends from Palmerston to Batchelor but the Centre is open to all people who are interested in athletics. The Centre calls Fred’s Pass Reserve its home and is located about 10 minutes south of Palmerston.
Currently RAC has a membership that exceeds 90 children,
covering all age groups from U/6 years to U/16 Years. This year the Centre has
re-introduced the Rusty Rural’s Competition, where parents of the junior
athletes have the opportunity to get onto the arena and rekindle past glories or
enhance particular skills.
The Centre’s uniform is Royal Blue and features a windmill on the running top, which signifies the rural heritage of RAC.
Training sessions are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.30 to 6.30 pm and competitions are held on Saturday mornings from 8.15 am.
Northern Territory Athletics and RAC foster athletics as a healthy recreational and social activity for all ages and relies on family participation to allow for the development of athletics in the Top End.
